I am a beginner and was originally going to get one of those sewing encyclopedia-type books, but came across this one whilst trying to figure out which one to get. I was not initially interested in this book as the fabrics are not to my taste and it seemed a bit old-fashioned, but once I got past that and started looking at the actual content, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very well organized -- it explains how to do a technique and then gives you a project to use that technique. It is very basic, but then surely that's what most people are looking for in a beginner-level sewing book. I have made 3 projects from this book and am looking forward to more!
